Happy Fourth!

It's raining here in New York but the show must go on so it looks like fireworks as usual over the East River this evening. I spent the day with my friend and her twins at the New York Historical Society where we made tricorne hats and read Madeline in the "Madeline in New York: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans" exhibit. Afterwards we headed over to the Time Warner Center for lunch at Bouchon Bakery where we had a nice view of rain-drenched Columbus Circle. Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth!


Happy Fourth of July, everyone! For those of you in the States, or those celebrating abroad, I wish you a lovely, relaxing day filled with fireworks and good food and drinks. I'm going to write up my Day Four post of the 31 Day Film Challenge and then I'm off. Enjoy!

It's the Fourth of July


Happy Fourth of July! What are everyone's plans for the day? I'm going to have a nice lie-in before heading to the park. I'll also be listening to one of my favourite bands, X, sing "4th of July." Written by Dave Alvin of the Blasters, it's a brilliant song. You can listen to it here.

Happy Fourth!

Happy Fourth of July everyone! I hope those of you here in the States are enjoying a relaxing day off from work. I know today is all about fireworks and barbecues but may I suggest taking a moment to reread the Declaration of Independence, which was adopted by the Continental Congress on this date in 1776. Authored primarily by one of my heroes, Thomas Jefferson, it really is a stunning document, especially the line "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." How wonderful is it that our founding fathers stopped to consider our happiness? Amazing.
